Secret millionaire set to inspire enterprise

Time: 10am and 3.30pm
A group of North East support agencies is joining forces to encourage enterprise in the area hardest hit by redundancies. Unemployed people and those under threat of redundancy in the south Durham area are being invited to an event to find out about starting their own business. Local entrepreneur and one of Channel 4's Secret Millionaires, John Elliott, will open the day. The South Durham Enterprise Fair, being held on June 24, aims to encourage people to think about their skills and interests in order for them to create their own future by setting up a business. The event is being organised by County Durham Economic Partnership and Jobcentre Plus with support from County Durham's local enterprise growth initiative, Be Enterprising, and County Durham's Enterprise Agencies. John Elliott, from Bishop Auckland, is the founder of the water cooler manufacturer, Ebac. James Walker, enterprise advocate for County Durham Economic Partnership said: "Redundancy can be a difficult and stressful time and financial commitments often mean the pressure is on to find a new job quickly. "We are helping people to realise that they have what it takes to run their own successful business. "Anyone coming along to the event will be able to find out everything about starting a business and the agencies involved will offer support throughout the entire start up process." Local entrepreneurs who have recently set up their own businesses will also be on hand to offer their expertise. The South Durham Enterprise Fair takes place between 10am and 3.30pm at Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre. Anyone looking for further information about the event or to find out about the free transport service should call 0845 330 6401.
