Bureau cheques in with further charity support

NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau boosted good causes across the UK and overseas when they helped raise £600 for the meetings industry official charity during International Confex 2010 at Earls Court last week.

The Bureau’s innovative token scheme supported ‘Meetings Industry Meetings Needs’ (MIMN) - the registered charity founded by leading figures in the UK conference industry – and the official charity of the Confex exhibition.

NewcastleGateshead’s charity tokens were distributed to exhibition visitors before and during the international meetings tradeshow, with the Convention Bureau pledging a pound sterling for every token collected at their stand.

Peter Rand MBE, MIMN Executive Committee Member, said: “We’re very grateful for NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau raising £600 for MIMN. We’re delighted that International Confex recognised MIMN as their official charity for the show this year. This inspiring initiative has boosted vital funds going to worthy causes in the UK and worldwide. We thank NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau very much.”

Jessica Roberts, head of business tourism at NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau, said: “We’re delighted to have raised this amount of money for MIMN and thank everyone who came to our stand as their involvement was integral to this effort. MIMN does some incredible work supporting a range of causes across the UK and all over the world. It was great to see so many people at our stand participating in this charity push, but also discovering more about one of the UK’s most innovative and vibrant conference destinations.”

Eight Convention Bureau members joined the team at International Confex 2010, where the new NewcastleGateshead Conference Guide was also unveiled.  It is the highest ever number of stand partners at the show and included: Event Durham, Hilton Newcastle Gateshead, Newcastle United Football Club, Newcastle University, Radisson BLU Hotel, Durham, Ramside Estates, Rockliffe Hall and The Sage Gateshead.
