Gentoo Offically Launches City Green And Benedict Court

Gentoo, with the help of the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), has officially opened a multi-million pound development in the heart of Sunderland city centre.

Just a matter of weeks ago, former Hahnemann Court residents began the move into their new homes and waved goodbye to their old homes in Southwick, with approximately 82 residents making the exchange to City Green and Benedict Court.

Residents, Gentoo staff members and guests, all came together to celebrate the grand opening of the development and to unveil a plaque as a tribute to all the hard work which was involved in the entire process.

The HCA Regional Director, Pat Ritchie said: “These are challenging times for our economy and Gentoo has shown imagination and drive to provide quality new homes and keep a tight-knit community together.

“Our role is to support local councils and housing providers like Gentoo to help make things happen in their own neighbourhoods, and this scheme is a great example of that approach in action.”

Peter Walls, Chief Executive of Gentoo said: “Without the help and cooperation of the original Hahnemann Court residents, we wouldn’t be here today; I would like to thank them and everyone involved.”

In addition, two cheques totaling £12,000 to Macmillan Cancer Support and Gentoo’s chosen charity, the Grace House North East Children's Hospice Appeal, were donated by the Hahnemann Court Residents Association.

The new development comes with a myriad of benefits for its new residents including a Doctor’s surgery and a city centre location. It is also situated close to the AgeUK Sunderland office, which offers support services for the elderly.
