College offer a snip at a new career this autumn
City of Sunderland College is calling on budding barbers from across Tyne and Wear to sign up for an exciting new course with facilities that are ‘a cut above’ the rest.
The NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Barbering begins on 20 September and will run from the college’s Hylton Skills Campus, a dedicated vocational centre complete with its own hair and beauty salon as well as the specially constructed barber shop.
The full-time course will run for 34 weeks and is suitable for anyone aged 16 and above. Aimed at those looking for a new career choice, it will provide learners with all of the skills needed in the professional male grooming industry including cutting, colouring, moustache and beard trimming and the ‘razorring’ technique.
Denise Graham, Curriculum Leader in Hair and Beauty, said: “Barbering is in high demand due to the substantial growth of the men’s hairdressing industry and understandably everyone wants to look their best!
“To support this, we’re offering this dedicated course in Barbering in addition to our wide range of Hair and Beauty courses.
“The programme covers everything students will need to know to enable them to work as a professional barber or even open their own business. It can also be a good addition if learners have already gained a hairdressing qualification but want to expand on their knowledge into the field of men’s grooming.
“Learners will be gaining up-to-date tips and techniques from the best of the best in our stunning new facilities.”
